Helping Pets Affected by Saskatchewan’s Wildfires
Early June’s fast-moving wildfires have already forced thousands of people—from La Ronge to the Manitoba border—to leave their homes. Provincial officials have declared a state of emergency, and many families fled with little more than their loved ones and pets.
How the Saskatoon SPCA Is Stepping In
Emergency Boarding
Our shelter has set aside kennels and foster spaces to house dogs, cats, and small animals whose families cannot find pet-friendly lodging right away. Animals stay safe and cared for until their people can return home or secure long-term housing.
Pet-Focused Relief Supplies
Thanks to community donations, we are distributing:
Dry and canned pet food
Litter and disposable trays
Leashes, collars
Food and water dishes
Families can pick up supplies at 2250 Hanselman Avenue or arrange delivery to evacuation centres when possible.
Guidance & Support
Our team can answer questions about temporary care, veterinary needs, and reunification if pets were separated during evacuation. We’re also networking with other shelters to move animals if space becomes tight.
